Support for new and expectant parents

By: Chelsea Baucom-Young, manager of Adoption and Pregnancy Support Services of Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Green Bay.

The second annual Baby Bottle Campaign concluded on Father’s Day. This campaign is a partnership between Catholic Charities and parishes within the Diocese of Green Bay, providing help and hope to new and expectant parents in Northeast Wisconsin.  This year, three parishes partnered with Catholic Charities to host a Baby Bottle Campaign, including Prince of Peace Parish, Green Bay; St. Mary Magdalene Parish, Waupaca; and St. Mary’s of the Lake Parish, Lakewood

Approximately 300 empty baby bottles were distributed to these parishes throughout the campaign, which began on Mother’s Day.  After the pennies, nickels, dimes, quarters, dollars, and checks were counted, over $5,800 was raised collectively! Most of the money raised during the campaign came from loose change donated inside these baby bottles.

The money collected through the Baby Bottle Campaign is used to assist new and expectant parents in need of pregnancy and parenting resources and support. This support includes baby supplies, partial rent assistance, utilities, or serving as a bridge when a need cannot be met through another social service organization, while also providing access to a supportive and knowledgeable family resource coordinator at Catholic Charities.

“This money helped tremendously,” one parent said. “It went toward my security deposit for a new home! My previous home had mold, and I was beyond nervous about my 1-year-old twins and my 6-year-old. Catholic Charities also provided me with helpful information along the way. I’m very grateful!”

The money collected during this campaign is also being used to assist with the stability of young families.

“This money helped pay for my CNA skills testing so that I could further my career and be able to provide better for my family,” another parent said. “I will be forever grateful for their generosity!”

Thank you to the incredible generosity of the three parishes that participated in the campaign, which allowed us to expand our reach by providing hope for expectant and new parents in need of support and resources.
