April is recognized as Volunteer Appreciation Month in the United States. Community recognition and growth in our volunteer program makes Catholic Charities visible, impactful, and communicative of Catholic social teaching and presence in the Diocese of Green Bay.
It is no wonder that in this Jubilee Year of Hope, God makes hope abound in the services provided through Catholic Charities and its volunteers. “Volunteering has allowed the lay faithful to step forward into the universal call to holiness in service to the Church and society.” (USCCB Jubilee of Volunteering) In Catholic Charities, volunteers explore their interests and talents through our services, the fruits of which are seen in a 150% increase in volunteer involvement compared to this time last year.
These volunteers put their faith into action, communicating the love of God in His Church to our society at community events such as the CP telethon, the VA 2K Walk and Roll, Fr. Carr’s CARRnival, and more.
Our volunteers advocate for human dignity by canvassing in partnership with Awaken Wisconsin to prevent human trafficking ahead of the NFL Draft. They are the face of Christ when they mentor moms in need or serve as a welcoming embrace for our refugee and immigrant communities. They support life by aiding in fundraisers such as the Baby Bottle Campaign and the Inspired to Act Gala. They enable us to extend our reach by creating Catholic Charities awareness in roles such as parish ambassadors. They help offer a hand up to independence for our clients through educational classes and presentations.
Thanks to the dedication of our Catholic Charities volunteers, the spiritual and corporeal works of mercy are alive and well in the Diocese of Green Bay.
